AT THE BAR

SHOT DURING SERVICE, NOT IN A STUDIO

I set up in a corner of the bar with portable studio flash and work with the bartender between orders. The drink is made the way it's served, in the glass it's served in, with the bar behind it. That's what makes a cocktail photo belong to one place and not to a stock library.

I've been photographing cocktails at The Dome since 2021, and since early 2026 at Jackson The Tailor, the only bar in Scotland shortlisted by the British Institute of Interior Designers in 2024.

THE LIGHT

FLASH IN A DARK ROOM

Bars are dark on purpose. Flash gives the glass a clean edge, keeps a Negroni red and a daiquiri green, and holds up when the photo is printed two metres wide. The phone shot never does.

WHERE IT GOES

ONE SERVE, EVERY FORMAT

Each cocktail is shot for the menu, the Instagram grid, the delivery apps and print, plus the bottle shot the drinks brand asks for. Campari, Grey Goose, Diplomático, The Botanist and Toki have all had their serves photographed in Edinburgh bars this way.

QUESTIONS BARS ASK

BEFORE YOU BOOK A COCKTAIL SHOOT

Can you shoot cocktails during service?

Yes. Most of my cocktail work is shot at the bar while the venue is open. I set up in a corner, work with the bartender between orders and stay out of the way of guests.

Do you use natural light or flash?

Studio flash, even in a dark bar. It gives the glass a clean edge and keeps the colour of the drink true, which matters for a menu and for print. Natural light only when the bar has it and it suits the serve.

How fast are the photos delivered?

Edited photos from 5 working days, depending on the size of the shoot. Faster delivery is possible for a launch, with a small extra for the rush.

How much does cocktail photography cost in Edinburgh?

A one-off shoot starts from £595 and a monthly content package from £395. Those are starting prices for Edinburgh itself, not fixed packages: every bar and every menu gets its own quote.

NEW MENU? BRAND WEEK? LAUNCH NIGHT?

Tell me what's on the list and when it goes live. I'll come back with a plan and a quote, usually within 24 hours.
